Madhya Pradesh Festival 2025: A Celebration of Culture and Spirituality
Bengaluru, January 12, 2025: The serene grounds of The Art of Living International Center were brought alive with the cultural and spiritual essence of Madhya Pradesh on the second evening of the four-day Madhya Pradesh Festival 2025. The event, graced by the global spiritual leader and humanitarian Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, was a divine blend of soulful music, mesmerizing cultural performances, wisdom, and meditation.
"When Madhya Pradesh shines, its cultural and spiritual light spreads everywhere," said Gurudev, praising the state’s profound heritage. He lauded the efforts of the Honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mohan Yadav, for actively promoting the state’s art and culture.
Highlighting the state’s spiritual significance, Gurudev shared, "The great saint Adi Shankara took his Deeksha (initiation) at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. From there, he laid the foundation for spreading spiritual knowledge across India. Madhya Pradesh has played an important role in elevating Indian spirituality and sharing it with the world."
The evening’s cultural performances transported the audience into the heart of Madhya Pradesh. A key attraction was the Maihar Band, an iconic ensemble established in 1918 by the legendary classical musician Ustad Allauddin Khan Sahib, with the support of Brijnath Singh Judev, the then king of Maihar. This band, known for preserving the tradition of Indian classical music, captivated the audience with their performance using traditional and rare instruments, including the unique Naltarang, made from gun tubes.
The cultural festivities continued with a spellbinding rendition of Shiva Stuti by artists from Jabalpur, followed by an enthralling Bharatanatyam dance drama by renowned exponent Smt. Jayalakshmi Ishwar.
The festival, which runs for four days, offers a vivid showcase of Madhya Pradesh's rich traditions. Visitors can experience the state’s heritage through traditional music, folk dances, and authentic cuisine. An exhibition features the region’s famous handicrafts, such as Gond and Bhil paintings, Chanderi silk, and Zari Zardozi embroidery.
With over 10,000 attendees at the Ashram, the event is a grand celebration of the state's cultural and spiritual legacy. The festival not only highlights the vibrant traditions of Madhya Pradesh but also serves as a reminder of India’s deep-rooted cultural and spiritual diversity.
The Madhya Pradesh Festival 2025 continues to inspire and connect people through the timeless beauty of art, culture, and spirituality.
